New York New York, it’s a wonderful town!

New York New York, it’s a wonderful town!

Calling all travelers and the “stay at home types” this is a place you MUST visit.

The funny thing was, on our flight from London Gatwick to Boston (Norwegian airways, very recommended) we were questioning if going to Boston was going to be a good move or not, and then, when leaving Boston, the question was “Oh dear what if we now don’t enjoy New York as much as Boston?!” But how can you not?!

I suppose the start has to be arriving at Penn Station and seeing the Empire State building right in front of you, we’re here we’re here!!!

The accommodation. Pod 39 hotel is located on 39th street and Lexington street, very close to Grand Central Station  and the Chrysler Building. Ok, so The Big Apple is expensive, but not anymore than London really! Of course it all adds up, so spent ages “googling” for a central, not-so-expensive hotel, that was clean and in a good area. The Pod 39 ticks all these boxes, the rooms are VERY small hence the “pod” term but are cleverly designed with drawers under the bed for your suitcase, or rails for the clothes. It’s a buzzing vibrant place with a breathtaking “mexican themed” rooftop bar! At the end of the day we only were there for sleeping and getting ready in the morning, so yes would recommend this hotel!

My plans for New York were very much see as much of if as we could in 4 days that we had, and I think we did pretty well!

On to the fun stuff. First stop, Times Square and Central Park, you don’t get more touristy than this! Times Square is amazing but horrible at the same time! You do have to be careful with your bag here, as many “Winnie the Poohs, Spidermans and Cookie Monsters” are wanting to pose for money. It is very busy but also one of the most breathtaking spots in the world!

One of my highlights of the city was definitely The High Line. A refurbished old train line turned into a fascinating walkway of art, vegetation and quirky views. We did have a little trouble finding where it actually started but once on it just keep walking until you are in the Meat Packing District, the IN place for dining.

Next morning, and first full day in NEW YORK. Hotels in US don’t tend to include breakfast, so we hunted for the perfect spot and I can say we definitely found it! Penelope is located on Lexington Avenue and is a friendly, shabby dinner that has an amazing reputation in the area. Watch out hungry lot, these ARE the best pancakes I have ever had!
